Gunstock Ski Weekend

Registration is open for our annual troop ski trip to Gunstock Mountain in Gilford NH on January 31 – February 2.   We have a deadline for registration & payment on this of January 17 (a week from this Friday)

Here’s what you need to know initially:

Overview

We’ll depart Pembroke around 6pm Friday.  We’ve rented 8 bunk heated cabins at Hidden Valley Scout Reservation in Gilmanton Iron Works, NH (30 minutes from mountain).  Saturday morning we’ll do something fun – TBD between ice fishing, winter hike, or visit to a small plane lake ice runway.  We’d head to the mountain in the afternoon.  We participate in the Night Skiing package which runs from 3:00 – 9:00pm.  We’ll return to Pembroke by approximately 12pm on Sunday.

Who can go?

The “camping” is a scout trip – but the skiing is open to everyone.  It’s great to have families come ski with us and over the years we’ve had families stay in local hotels or drive home late night.  Parents & siblings can either purchase tix separately (or run it through our group registration).

Lessons

IF you’re not a ski family (this was my family)….Parker & Grayson went skiing for the first time ever with Troop 105.  The troop is thrilled to help provide that opportunity.  A lesson is required for any new skiers – and if they’ve only been once before sometimes a lesson isn’t a terrible idea again.  We see each year that this age group is notoriously overly confident in their skiing abilities – which can be dangerous.  We want everyone to take it slow and ski with others who have a similar ability level.  ***We’re hoping to get our lesson group over for a 1pm lesson – BUT – Gunstock has told us the lessons can fill up.  Please RSVP ASAP if your scout needs a lesson and we’ll do our best

Cost

  • Lift tickets:  $50/scout and $70/adult.  Price includes a rental.  Helmets are $15 extra.
  • Lesson package for everything is $150 (lesson, rentals, lower mountain lift ticket).  Helmets are $15 extra.
  • Adults can either ski or hang out in the lodge.  Our past experience has been that we can claim table space on the top floor of the lounge to sit together, play cards, read books, etc.
  • ***Payment must be made prior to our 1/17 deadline.  We will not be able to issue refunds for cancellations once we book with the mountain 10 days in advance.  After our Troop Committee mtg. tomorrow night we’ll follow up with a STRIPE link for easy payment.

Registration

  • On the website – in the “notes” – please indicate:
    • Skiing or snowboarding
    • Equipment rental needed?
    • Lesson needed?
    • Helmet needed? (helmets are mandatory)
  • For example, comments should look something like this: “Skiing / need rental equipment / need helmet / no lesson” or “or if a family member “Fred’s sister Sally – Skiing / has skis & helmet / needs lesson”

Thank you to Mike Rowland who’s helping with the coordination of reservations at Gunstock.  He’ll share a mode of collection for details for everyone who will be renting equipment prior.
